David Cummins
David Cummins is a progressive and ambient rock artist and producer 40 years in the making. Inspired by iconic musical storytellers like James Taylor and rock giants such as Pink Floyd, David started performing music in the late 70’s and early 80’s, touring in clubs around the UK both solo and with a band. After his time at university, he shifted his focus to his creative design business, causing his musical career to slip into the background.
In 2017, after the death of his partner, David picked up his guitar and started writing songs again. Music was his emotional outlet – a reflection of his feelings and a way to come to terms with the passing of a loved one. These songs formed the basis of the album ‘I Have Dreams’ which was released at the end of November 2019.
David’s second album ‘Reflections’ was released on all platforms July 2020.
Released September 2021, Futurework’s Music’s well received ‘Year One’ twenty four track, multi genre compilation featured two tracks by David – ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’ and Wise Enough.
December 2021 saw the release of David’s EP ‘Winds of Change’. Three tracks reflecting the uncertain times we live in with contributions by rapper Baxter Fielding of MNR020, drummer Joe Savage and guitarist Altin Gjoni.
A creative in every sense of the word, David is also a designer and photographer, and has worked in these industries for more than 30 years. His passion for music started at the age of 11, when he got his very first guitar. He is now a multi-instrumentalist, playing the keyboard, bass and guitar on his songs.
September 2023 finally saw ‘Here I Go‘ released which David thinks his strongest album to date. The album features great lead guitar by Altin Gjoni. You can get a sneak preview below.
2023 has also seen the birth of ‘the ffusion project’. Borne out of David’s interest in the music and cultures of the world we live in, the ffusion project is an ongoing project fusing the music of these different cultures with his own
Many artists have created masterpieces of world fusion music. Robert Plant and Jimmy Page wrote and recorded a collection of great songs with local musicians in Marrakesh, Morocco back in 1994; One Giant Leap’s Jamie Catto and Duncan Bridgeman actively collaborated with artists and musicians from around the world when they produced their fusion album of the same name in 2002; Banco De Gaia with his techno and ambient compositions that became the outstanding ‘Last Train to Lhasa in 1995 and many many more.
‘The ffusion project’ is following in the footsteps of these giants, creating music that is relevant today in 2023, blending the music of disparate cultures, disparate genres, into a new musical whole.
